Top Features of the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro Smart EV Charger

  • The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro allows users to set specific times for when you want to charge your electric vehicle. By scheduling charging sessions during off-peak hours, you’ll be able to take advantage of cheaper energy prices. 

    You can adjust the duration of each charging session through the Hypervolt app. Use the ‘add session’ button to create multiple sessions as needed. After editing your schedule, you will get a view of all the sessions plus the estimated mileage gained against the rate of charge per session. Follow these steps:

    • Tap on the mode button, to see the ‘Plug and Charge’ or ‘Schedule Charge’ options.

    • Tap ‘Schedule Charge.’

    • Tap the ‘Add Session’ option.

    • Using the drop-down boxes, select the time you want your charge schedule to start and end.

    • Tap ‘Next.’

    After successfully changing the charging session, the app will show you an overview of the charge session, complete with the details of how long the schedule will last and an estimate of how much range and energy will go into a plugged in vehicle after the session has ended. If you want to follow the said schedule, click ‘Apply.’

  • If your property is equipped with solar panels, you have the option to toggle between different charging speeds based on your needs. This ability is quite handy no matter if you’re in a hurry and need a quick top-up or if you prefer a slower, more cost-effective charge over time. The ability to control how fast the charger works ensures that you can balance energy costs, charging speed, and battery longevity based on your unique situation. The solar charging modes included in the Hypervolt include:

    • Super Eco - This uses only solar energy to charge your car and presents a minimum charging speed of 1.4kW.

    • Eco - This prioritises the use of solar energy to charge your car. However, if the energy your solar panel produces falls below 1.4kW, it reverts to a stable 1.4kW trickle charge either from both grid and solar sources or just grid. 

    • Boost Mode - This full-power mode charges your EV at 7kW using any available energy source.

  • Locking your Hypervolt Home 3 Pro charger is essential if you want to override any existing configurations and prevent it from accidentally charging. All you need to lock the device is to tap the Lock icon on the homescreen. This icon will allow you to toggle its locked and unlocked status at any time. The LED indicator on the charger will change to orange when the device is locked. However, please take note that trying to lock the charger while there is an active charging session will only work after the session has ended and the EV has been unplugged.

  • The Hypervolt seamlessly integrates with the Octopus Go tariff, a popular UK energy plan that offers cheaper electricity during off-peak hours. With this integration, the charger can automatically sync with Octopus Go’s reduced-rate hours, ensuring that your vehicle charges at the most economical times. The integration process is as follows: 

    • Open the Octopus app and, on the home screen, tap ‘Get started’ under the ‘Intelligent Octopus Go for EVs’ tab.

    • Select your Hypervolt Home 3 Pro charger from the device list and log in to your Hypervolt account when asked.

    • Octopus will then run a test charge to ensure your charger is connected to your Octopus Energy account.

    Once connected, you'll see a ‘Devices’ tab in the Octopus Energy app where you can set your charging preferences. If the LED light is on, your Hypervolt display will glow purple and the app will show ‘Octopus Mode’ under the charging mode section.

  • The OVO Charge Integration connects your Hypervolt Home 3 Pro charger to OVO Energy's smart EV tariffs, helping you optimise charging around the most cost-effective times. This integration allows the charger to intelligently adjust its charging schedule based on energy demand and pricing, which can help you save on energy costs while also contributing to grid stability. 

    • Go to ovoenergy.com and log in to your OVO Energy account.

    • In the ‘Offers and Upgrades’ section, find the Charge Anytime offer and tap ‘Check if I am eligible’.

    • Select the make and model of your charger.

    • You'll then be asked to enter your Hypervolt login details and allow OVO to connect to your charger.

    Once connected, your Hypervolt Home 3 Pro charger will glow green and the app will say ‘OVO Charge’ in the charging mode display.

Understanding the Indicator Lights

 

Blue

  • Solid: The charger is ready to use but no car is plugged in.

  • Pulsing: The car is plugged in but waiting to start charging.

  • Pulsing White: There is no internet connection.

Orange

  • Solid: The charger is locked.

  • Flashing: Someone is trying to use the charger but it is locked.

Green

  • Solid: The car is charging.

  • Flashing: The charger is waiting due to a random delay.

  • The side LEDs show the charging rate, with fewer lit LEDs indicating a slower charging rate.

Yellow

  • Solid: When in Super Eco Mode only, charging is paused because there isn't enough solar power being generated.

  • Pulsing: Charging has been stopped through the app.

Purple

  • Solid: Scheduled charging is set but no car is plugged in.

  • Pulsing: The car is plugged in and waiting to start charging at the scheduled time.

Red

  • The safety system has been activated, and the charger has stopped charging.

  • Check the status in the Hypervolt app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the common questions that you may encounter while using this EV charging point model and how to resolve them.

  • This likely means your Hypervolt charger isn’t receiving power. It’s often due to a circuit breaker being turned off or tripped. You can do the following to resolve this issue: 

    • Check the circuit breaker and ensure it’s switched on. You can also test it by pressing the test button on an RCD/RCBO-style circuit breaker.

    • If the circuit breaker is working and the charger still looks off, the LED brightness may be set to 0%. Open the app (Settings > LEDBrightness) and adjust the brightness back to 100%.

  • The charger itself doesn’t lock the cable in place. Your electric vehicle controls the charging port lock. To untether the cable, do the following: 

    • Make sure the vehicle has ended the charging session before trying to disconnect the cable.

    • Refer to your vehicle’s user manual for instructions on how to end the charging session. Typically, there’s a button to unlock the charging port, which may be located in the centre console, near the driver’s door, or on the key fob.

  • This may be because your vehicle is set to charge at a later scheduled time. It can also be because the vehicle is already fully charged. It’s also possible that there’s an error with the vehicle, so check for any warning messages. If the vehicle is not charging due to improper connection, try unplugging and reconnecting the charging cable. You can also clean and inspect the charging plug to ensure that this issue is not caused by debris or damage to the plug. 

  • You can check if your vehicle has a maximum charge limit set, which might stop the battery from charging to 100%. Some vehicles have this feature to reduce wait times at public charging stations.
